Civil and Commercial Law School
 
    Established from the earliest Civil and Commercial law discipline, the School currently has 5 disciplines: Civil Law, Commercial Law, IP Law, and Marriage and Family Inheritance in addition to the Women’s Theory Research Institute. In 2002, the Chongqing key Humanities and Social Science Research Base, the Base of Legal System Research for Market Trade, was established in the School. In 1981, the School was accredited as among the first higher institutions to recruit postgraduate students. In 1995, Civil and Commercial Law was assessed as the key discipline at the provincial and ministerial level and in 1998, it won the right to confer doctorate degrees. The Civil Law discipline was assessed among the first key construction disciplines by Sichuan province and was assessed among the first classic disciplines in Chongqing. In 2003, the Intellectual Property discipline was assessed among the second group of key construction disciplines.
 
Economic and Trade Law School
 
    Established from the second Law department, the Economic and Trade Law School has 4 teaching and research sections: Economic Law, International Economic Law, International Law, and Resources and Environment Law.  It offers 3 PhD programs in Resources and Environmental Law, and 3 master’s programs in International Law, and Resources and Environment Law. Economic Law is the only key national-level discipline in Law in the western area of China and was assessed as a national-level classic discipline in 2005.
 
    At present, the School has undertaken 10 projects of the National Social Science Fund, 20 key provincial or ministerial research projects, 1 national “soft” science project, 2 EU projects and 6 other provincial and ministerial funded projects. The Grade A project of “The Research on Legal Mechanism of Sharing the Fruits of Reform and Developments” mainly undertaken by Prof. Li Changqi is the first National Social Science Fund project that was won in Chongqing and even in the entire western area of China.
 
Law School
 
    The school consists of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Civil Procedure Teaching and Research Sections, and also other teaching and research institutions such as:  Drug Crime and Solution Policy Research Center, Southern Criminal Law Research Center, Juvenile Delinquency Research Institute, and Comparative Civil Procedure Research Center. School-affiliated Criminal Law, Procedural Law and Drug Crime and Solution Policy Research Center are the key disciplines and research bases at the provincial and ministerial level. The School was among the first institutions to be awarded the right to confer master’s degrees in China and was the institution to have key disciplines from the Ministry of Justice and Chongqing and was awarded the right to confer doctorate degrees by the Academic Commission of the State Council.
 
    In the past ten years, the School has successively undertaken and finished more than 20 national-level social fund projects from both at home and abroad and nearly 50 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, also publishing more than 200 monographs and works of translation as well as more than 2,000 articles. “Collection of Prohibiting Drug” was the gift presented to the UN by some concerned institutions of China. Great achievements have been made in teaching and research in the School: Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure were honored with the teaching award of excellence at the national level and other disciplines were honored the first-rank or above teaching award at the provincial and ministerial level. All the main courses were graded as national and provincial classic or key courses.
 
 
Administrative Law School
 
    The School consists of Jurisprudence, Legal History, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and logic teaching and research sections in addition to the Western Legal Development Center, Southwest Ethnic Law Culture Research Center, Chinese Local Legal System Research Center, among which, Jurisprudence and Legal History are key disciplines at the provincial and ministerial levels, and Administrative Law is an important course at the provincial and ministerial levels. The School offers 3 PhD programs: Jurisprudence, Legal History, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, 3 master’s degree programs in Jurisprudence, Legal History, and Constitutional Law and Logic.
 
Criminal Investigation Law School
 
    The predecessor of the School was the first undergraduate major of Criminal Investigation approved by the Ministry of Education in 1979. With more than 20 years of development, the School has developed 2 master’s degree programs in Investigation Science and Police Science, and 4 undergraduate majors in Investigation Science (Professional Crime class included), Criminal Scientific Techniques, Public Security and Economic Crime Investigation. The school has published the first series of textbooks in Investigation Science in China and educated a large number of famous experts and professors in the teaching and research of Investigation Science.
 
    The Criminal Investigation Law School has established the Forensic Science Center which was conferred the right of Judicial Evaluation by the Ministry of Justice in 1987. The school constructed teaching and research sections of Investigation Science, Trace Analysis, Security Science and Sound Image Techniques in addition to laboratories of Photography, Physics and Chemistry, Traces, and Forensic Medicine. The Court Science Research Center and Police Science Research Institute were established in the School.
 
Economics School
 
    Developed from the Economics Department of 1993, the School consists of 3 teaching and research sections of Economics, Finance Science, and International Economy and Trade. International Trade Theory and Practice is the University’s classic course. Dr. Li Shu, the leader of the discipline of Economics was awarded the title of the Chongqing Young and Middle Aged Distinguished and Essential Teacher.
Mainly dealing with the teaching and research of the undergraduate education, the school offers 2 undergraduate majors in Finance Science and International Economy. The School began to recruit graduate students in the field of National Economics in 2004.
 
Management School
 
    Established in 1985, the School has 3 master’s degree programs in Enterprise Management, Administration, and Political Science, and also undergraduate programs in four majors: Administration, Industry and Commerce Administration, Marketing, and Accounting. The teachers from the School have successively undertaken several projects of different kinds and levels. The school has its own research group and characteristics in the area of Comparative Political Science, Local Administration, Public Crisis Management, Strategy Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing Plan, and Judicial Accounting.
 
School of Politics and Public Affairs
 
    Established in 2003 from its predecessor of the Departments of Marxist Theory and Morality Education, the School offers 8 master’s degree programs, among which, there is one primary discipline of Marxist Theory (with 5 secondary disciplines underneath), 3 secondary disciplines in philosophy: Marxist Philosophy, Ethics, and Chinese Philosophy. The School offers 2 undergraduate majors: Morality Education and Public Administration.
 
   The School has 1 scientific research base at the university level, namely Applied Ethics Research Center. In the last three years, the School has won 3 projects, and 4 teaching and research awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. One teacher was honored with the title of “Master” by the University, two teachers were honored with the title of “Model of Professional Morality and Ethics”, and 1 teacher was honored with the title of “Chongqing Yong and Middle Aged Distinguished and Essential Teacher”.

School of Journalism and Communication
 
    Ten years after its establishment, with the guideline of “strong basis, wide caliber, emphasizing interdisciplinary learning, high quality and strong ability”, aimed at the integration of Journalism and Communication with Law for development, the School has formed a complete education system in the science of Journalism and Communication. The school has established 2 undergraduate programs in Journalism and Broadcast Journalism, and 2 master’s degree programs in Communication. In 2005, the School won the right to confer master’s degrees in all the secondary disciplines underneath the primary discipline.
 
    The School has created 4 teaching and research sections of Journalism Theory, Journalism Business, Journalism Writing, Legal Journalism, in addition to Public Teaching and Research and Graduate Teaching and Research sections, and 2 laboratories of Editing and Broadcasting in addition to the Legal Journalism Research Center. The School has 4 other laboratories of TV Interview and Editing, Photography, Computer, and Laser Illumination.
 
Foreign Languages School
 
    Established in 1993, the School consists of 4 teaching and research sections, primarily English Major, College English, Foreign Language for graduate students, and secondary foreign languages teaching and research sections. The school undertakes the teaching of foreign languages to all levels of students varying from doctoral students to academy students. The Legal Economic and Trade English branch aims to educate composite personnel who both master English and study Law and Economic Management, and can engage in International Law, Foreign Trade, Economic Management, Research, Translation and Editing. The School offers master’s degree programs in Foreign Language Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. In 2002, “College English” was assessed as an important course of Chongqing. In the past ten years, the school has made great achievements both in teaching and research. A number of teachers won research awards from the Ministry of Justice and Chongqing Municipality on a number of occasions. The School has also published more than 100 kinds of textbooks, reference books and monographs.   
 
Applied Law School
 
     Applied Law School was established in May of 1999 and was one of the earliest advanced professional schools in China. It includes an academy Law major (branch of Legal Secretary), academy Criminal Implementation major and undergraduate Law major (branch of Applied Technology). The School recruits students that have taken the national college entrance exam all over the country. The advanced professional education is one type of a new advanced general education and is equivalent to the average advanced general education for it has “seven unity”, namely the recruit plan, matriculation, management, employment system, transferring of registered permanent residence, awarding the general education graduation diploma and employment report certificates.
 
     The characteristic of the School is self-cultivation of the applied legal experts and enhancement of the operational ability of the students in legal occupations. Graduates of this school have relatively strong legal professional practical abilities and have already become the practical experts on the working line of public security bureaus, prosecuting bureaus, courts, judicial departments, other national departments, law firms and other institutions.
 
Continuing Education School
 
     In order to provide all the common citizens with the opportunity of lifelong education, the University has established the School of Continuing Education. The School owns a multi-level and multi-form adult education system as follows: the correspondence academy, correspondence undergraduate college on the basis of the academy, full-time academy, full-time undergraduate college on the basis of the academy, full-time undergraduate college on the basis of the high school, evening college, self- taught academy, full-time undergraduate college assistance class and amateur assistance class, certificate of specialty, professional quality certificate and post training.
 
     In 1992, the University was ranked as the “National Advanced Unit of Adult Education among Higher Education” by the Ministry of Education. Also in the same year, the University was awarded the ten years “Advanced Correspondence Education Unit” by the Ministry of Justice.  In 1996, the University was ranked at the top by the Ministry of Justice in correspondence and evening college in education review. In 1997, the University was awarded the “National Excellent University” in adult higher education review and “National Advanced Examination University of Self- Taught Higher Education” by the Ministry of Education.
