In recent years, the construction of disciplines of the University has been brilliant. The Economic Law discipline was awarded as the national key discipline in 2002 and became the first legal national key discipline in western China. The University has already established 6 provincial key disciplines: Economic Law, Procedural Law, Civil Law & Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Philosophy of Law, and Legal History. It has also constructed three key social science and humanities research bases of ministerial authorization: China’s Rural Economic Law Research Center, Legal Study Institute of Market Transactions and the Center for Research on Drug Related Crimes and Prevention. The University was successfully designated as a member of the first group of Primary Key Programs of Law to confer doctorate degrees and has established the post doctoral mobile station. Some new master’s degree programs and undergraduate majors were established and the aim of the conferring of doctorate degrees of Law in any secondary doctorate degree program and the conferring of master’s degrees of other disciplines besides Law was fully realized. The multi-disciplined, multi-level and multi-formed school system with 1 primary discipline programs of Law to confer doctorate degrees, 8 secondary discipline programs of Law to confer doctorate degrees, 24 secondary discipline programs of Law to confer master’s degrees and 17 undergraduate majors were formed. The University was awarded the right of Evaluation of Legal Professors under the ratification of the Ministry of Education in 2004.
The discipline-construction quality of the University was fully recognized by the State and Chongqing municipality. The legal discipline of SWUPL was ranked 6th in the national unitary level evaluation of the primary programs by the Ministry of Education to the higher education and research institutions. The eligibility of civic key disciplines of the University was fully recognized in the mid-term examination and evaluation of the civic key disciplines organized by the Chongqing Education Committee in 2004.
